LEGAL MAXIMS

Maxims are an established principle or proposition of law

                      • That is universally admitted.
                      • As being just and consonant with reason.
                      • As being a correct statement of law.
                      • Are part of the general customs or common law of the land.

Legal maxims are important tools in the interpretation, understanding, and application of laws. Most of Latin maxims originated from the Medieval era in European states as they used Latin as their legal language. These principles guides Courts all over the world.  Such principles don’t have the authority of law but when Courts apply the maxims in deciding issues, they take the form of law and form the basis of sound judgments.

The following are the list of the legal maxims.
