Location: Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
Salary: Up to Rs. 50,000 per month

The CPA Project, a litigation and research-driven advocacy intervention based in Bhopal, is seeking applications for the position of Research and Advocacy Associate for the year 2024.

About the Project:

The CPA Project is dedicated to ending the disproportionate targeting of oppressed caste communities, particularly the Denotified Tribes (DNTs), by the criminal justice system. It advocates for anti-caste and anti-carceral frameworks in policing and aims to resist the criminalization of livelihoods and cultures of Denotified tribes and marginalized communities through research-driven advocacy and consensus-building within social justice movements.

Eligibility:

  • Law graduate enrolled with the Bar Council of India
  • 1-2 years of preferred work experience
  • Familiarity with Madhya Pradesh or social justice movements
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in Hindi and English
  • Ability to travel for collaborations with partners
  • Excellent skills in relationship-building

Responsibilities:

Advocacy:

  • Implement advocacy strategies in Madhya Pradesh focusing on the criminalization of forest rights and wildlife policing.
  • Coordinate with partners for strategy dialogues and advocacy workshops.
  • Develop documentation to support advocacy outputs.
  • Support strategic litigation through case law research and petitioner documentation.
  • Represent CPA Project in advocacy convenings.

Research:

  • Contribute to background research for future projects.
  • Conduct literature reviews and field visits.
  • Assist in research training workshops for community-based organizations.
  • Develop research proposals and studies to build evidence for advocacy.

Organizational:

  • Contribute to the anti-caste culture and ethical praxis at CPA.
  • Engage in advocacy and networking activities.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to team building.
  • Support donor engagement and reporting.

Stipend:
