NALSAR University of Law is inviting online applications for the positions of Program Coordinator and Research Associates for the Accessing Justice to Prisoners Program.

Positions Available:

  • Program Coordinator: 1 Position
  • Research Associates: 1 Position

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

Program Coordinator

  • Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Criminal Law.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of practice in law and/or research/advocacy on prison reforms, human rights, or rights of marginalized communities.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability to lead a team of 12 members in the field of access to justice.
    • Proven organizing and coordination skills with courts, prisons, and the legal aid system.
    • Decent communication skills with different stakeholders.
    • Documentation skills.
    • Familiarity with prison systems and procedures to effectively identify prisoners in need of legal aid and assist them with available legal options.
    • Good research and writing skills to draft legal documents.
    • Knowledge of human rights and fair trial principles.
    • Strong ethical standards, maintaining integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality in dealing with sensitive legal matters.
    • Continuous learning to stay updated with relevant legal developments, case laws, and best practices in fair trial advocacy.

Research Associates

  • Education: Master’s degree in law or a relevant field.
  • Experience: One or two years of research experience preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to gather and interpret complex legal information.
    • Familiarity with MIS, legal research databases, legal frameworks, and bail jurisprudence.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present research findings.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
    • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple research projects.
    • Understanding of social justice issues, human rights, and the challenges faced by prisoners with multiple vulnerabilities.
