“Serena Joy” is a song written by Olivia Rodrigo and Daniel Nigro, released in support of Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields charity festival. The song first received a highly limited physical release, with just 500 CDs distributed at Analog Record Shop in Orange County, California, beginning August 21, 2026. It became available digitally three days later, with Rodrigo announcing on Instagram that a portion of the song’s net proceeds would benefit the Daisy Chain Fields fund. The title references Serena Joy, a character from Margaret Atwood’s 1985 dystopian novel The Handmaid’s Tale.
The track was originally considered for Rodrigo’s third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, but was ultimately left off the final tracklist. In an interview with Etalk, Rodrigo explained that the album was designed as a chronological story about a relationship, covering its beginning, middle and end, while suggesting that “Serena Joy” could become part of another project in the future. Its eventual release gives fans the chance to hear a previously unreleased song from the album’s creative period while also supporting Rodrigo’s charitable initiative.
