Jharkhand Cabinet Approves Major Welfare Schemes for Lawyers: Medical Insurance, Stipends, and Pensions
The Jharkhand Cabinet’s recent decision reflects a significant step in supporting the legal community in the state. Here’s a summary of the key points from the announcement:
- Medical Insurance: A Rs 5 lakh medical insurance cover has been approved for over 30,000 lawyers in Jharkhand. This initiative aims to provide financial support for medical expenses.
- Monthly Stipend: New lawyers who are just starting their practice will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for the first five years. This is intended to help them during the initial phase of their careers.
- Pension Scheme: Senior lawyers aged 65 years and above will benefit from a monthly pension of Rs 14,000. This pension aims to support retired or senior advocates financially.
These measures were driven by the efforts of Jharkhand’s Advocate General, Rajiv Ranjan, and follow previous announcements and recommendations from the Jharkhand High Court for extending insurance benefits to lawyers.
